Introduction of School of Railway Transportation:
As one of the most distinctive schools of Shanghai Institute of Technology (SIT), the School of Railway Transportation (RTS) is established to meet the fast development of international high-speed railway and rail transit, Its goal is to cultivate front-line technical personnel and management staff in the field of railway transportation. Taking the educational and geographical advantage of SIT, RTS forced on constructing four majors, including railway signaling & communication, vehicle engineering, track engineering and electric traction & transmission, to meet the technical requirements of modern railway transportation. We are determined to build RTS into an ideal place for the education of applied talents in the high-speed railway and rail transit field.
Teaching Staff:
RTS has a reasonable-structured faculty with high academic background, abundant teaching experience, and strong engineering practical ability. The faculty mainly comes from domestic well known research institutes and first-line companies, i.e. Tongji University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Southwest Jiaotong University, Shanghai University, China Academy of Railway Sciences, Shanghai Construction Group, Shanghai Railway Bureau, and Shanghai Metro. At present, there are over 20 teachers (full-time & part-time), including 3 professors, 11 associate professors, and 5 lectures, of which 85 percent have PH.D. degree. So far, the whole faculty devote themselves to teaching and research with high enthusiasm and pragmatic attitude, aiming to bring up more and more applied talents for Chinese modern railway transportation.
Introduction of Testing & Training Center:
Supported by SIT and first-line industry companies, RTS is being built ‘Railway Signaling & Communication’, ‘Vehicle Engineering’, and ‘Track engineering’ synthetical testing & training center, which would focus on undergraduate practice teaching system such as particular public basic courses, professional curricular tests, and large comprehensive experiments. Furthermore, in accordance with the belief to bring up more and more applied talents, the laboratories would open around the clock for undergraduate engineering practices, technical innovations, and supporting scholastic research.

1.Railway Signaling & Communication
Main Courses:
Electric Circuit, Experiment In Circuitry, Digital Electronic Technique, Analog Electronics Technique, Signals & Systems, Principle Of Automatic Control, Computer Principles & Interface Techniques, Signals Infrastructure Foundation, Signal Automatic Railway Station Control System, Digital Signal Processing, Signal Automatic Block Section Control System, Railway Signal Remote Control, and Computer Trip System etc. .
Occupational expectation:
Graduates would be sent into national railways, regional railways, urban rail transit, railway construction bureaus, and signaling appliance factories etc., they are been concentrating in railway signaling and communication works such as design, manufacture, maintenance and scientific research.
2. Vehicle Engineering
Main courses:
Machine Building & Computer Graphics, Theoretical Mechanics, Mechanics Of Materials, Electrotechnics, Principle Of Machinery, Engineering Thermodynamics, Vehicle Ensemble & Running Gear, Vehicle Electric Propulsion Technology, Fundamentals Of Vehicle Dynamics, Vehicle Braking Technology, Structure Strength Analysis Of Vehicle, Computer Principles & Interface Techniques, and Power Electronics Converting Technique etc..
Occupational expectation:
Graduates would be sent into whole locomotive and vehicle & machine replacement parts manufacturers, urban rail transit operating companies, locomotive repairing bases, railway traffic departments, and related research institutions etc., they are been concentrating in railway vehicle engineering works such as manufacture, overhaul, and management.
3. Track Engineering
Main courses:
Mechanics Of Materials, Structural Mechanics, Hydrodynamics, Civil Engineering Material, Engineering Survey, Railway Introduction, Principle Of Structure Design, Steel Structure Fundamental Principles, Railway Route Selection, Structure Experiment & Measurement, Subgrade & Foundation, Railway Engineering, Bridge Engineering, Subgrade Engineering, Bridge Construction, Budgetary Estimation, Tunnel Engineering, Passenger Special Line Infrastructure Testing & Evaluating Technology, and Passenger Special Line Infrastructure Construction & Consolidation etc..
Occupational expectation:
Graduates would be sent into high-speed railways, urban rail transit design and construction enterprises etc., they are been concentrating in railway engineering works such as plan, survey, and design. Moreover, they would be qualified of infrastructure measuring, monitoring and strengthening in first-line traffic operation companies and construction corporations.
